The thing about Flickr is that you can organize your pictures into various albums or categories, you can join different groups of people who are interested in things like nature photography or anything that are of interest to you.
For Instagram, you can only follow people but there are no groups that you can join other than viewing images based on the hashtags! I guess this groups joining feature that Flickr offers is really good! It just provides us with a more organized way of viewing the pictures that are of interest to us. You can comment and like the images, there are also discussion groups / forums within each interest group!! This is really awesome! Apart from viewing the pictures, liking it and post a few comments, you can create threads and talk about the images or techniques in taking those pictures etc! It's pretty cool!
If you are avid photographer and traveler, you can even provide detailed specifications on how you took those pictures and where did you take them!! And shared it with everyone on Flickr! I thought this is a good way to keep a photography or travel journals pretty much like visual/image blogging!
I like how Flickr allows us to organize our pictures, which Instagram doesn't offer such feature! This is an awesome tool!

Ernest,
ReplyDeleteThanks for comparing Instagram and Flickr. It took me forever to really get into Instagram (I just didn't see the point at first) but now I post constantly. Seeing that Flickr has a lot more versatility in terms of curating one's own (or anothers') experience has me pretty convinced that I need to download the app and begin using it on my mobile devices instead. This is not something I had considered previously, but since I chose to join photography communities for this course, it makes sense.
Hey Kahla! Thanks for reading my post! I have got a lot of friends who are into photography, who uses Flickr and Instagram to showcase all the beautiful pictures that they have taken with their power cameras or through their phones! they are really very good applications!
