Quizizz a Web 2.0 Tool!

I googled for Web 2.0 tools and found this blog that listed the best Web 2.0 applications for education in 2015 (http://larryferlazzo.edublogs.org/2015/06/03/the-best-web-2-0-applications-for-education-in-2015-so-far/). From the list provided by the author, I chose Quizizz and decided to try it out, and it's free! It is a public website where anyone can create quizzes using the features, share them on the website and also take the quizzes created by others! I quote the author,"Once you as the teacher joins, which takes seconds, you pick a quiz; are given a code for a virtual room; then give the code to your students, who just log in with the code and a nickname (they don’t have to register with the site). When all your students are set, you click “start game.” You see the leader board as do the students as they’re progressing through the quiz. I took one of the quiz called Identify the Minerals and guess, I failed terribly haha! Below is a screenshot of my results:

I gave it shot and created a short quiz of my own on Learning Theories and Cognition and if you are interested to test yourself out go to this link: http://quizizz.com/admin/quiz/5775ff427b18b05120651610,

I thought the development process was really straight forward and easy to do. There are a lot of quizzes created by the different people and the genre ranges from academic subjects i.e. science and history, to personal interest i.e. movies, games or sports. It is a good tool that can be used to administer a test in a classroom setting. I was exploring the application to see if there are any discussion forums or features that allows people to collaborate with each other to create a quiz or discuss on general topics. There is no such feature at all and there are no features where you can comment on the questions etc. It is like Slideshare where people can upload and download these shared information but for Slideshare, we can provide comments on the information that are being shared on the website. I guess this is one the disadvantage of this application. There are means where you can share or promote your quiz through other social media applications such as Twitter and Facebook. I tried to find out if there are any ways that I can communicate (e-mail or private message) with the people who created the quizzes, there is no such feature on the application as well. Perhaps these could be potential improvements to the application to allow for more collaboration between the users.

  1. Hey Ernest, thanks for sharing the article and great review on Quizizz tool! I think the potential for this tool could be more relevant in the social media space, considering that the quizzes created can be easily shared and administered via such platforms. I am not sure about using it for formal assessment items though. Can the tool provide immediate feedback and quick statistics on the results and class performance after each quiz?

  2. Hello Dennis! Yes it does provide real time feedback and statistics on the results and class performance! In a classroom setting, the teacher can set up this quiz and get all the students in the class to participate in the test. There is like a real-time dashbaord that the teacher can see how the students are performing as they are doing the test. Maybe this tool can be used in conjunction with other social media platform to create a community to share information or ideas on the quizzes. Thanks for reading!
